About the Event
Course Dates: Every week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30pm-6:10pm PST during the month of August, starting the first week of August (August 4th and August 6th are first classes).
Course Description: This course will cover the basics of the coding language of Python. Students will learn about topics from simple print statements and loops to the ASCII table and when to use lists, sets, or dictionaries. They'll be writing their own code on the website repl.it and encouraged to ask questions as well as share their work in class with the group or just the instructor. Projects like Guess My Number will start simple and learners will begin incorporate more complicated concepts to code a game of Hangman. Coding with Python is a course meant for beginners, but those who've attended Maya's weekly classes or coding camp are welcome and encouraged to join!
Activity Leader bio: Maya Yung is a sophomore from the Bay Area that's excited to be teaching with The Passion Project! She's had a variety of experiences in coding with Juni Learning, graphic design with the Economics Education Initiative, and debating with her school team. In her free time, Maya loves learning songs on the guitar, playing games with her sisters, and grabbing boba with friends.
Materials Needed: Just a computer :)
